Directions to FTP web files to your Novaweb and/or Loudoun Web
home directory
Using WS_FTP (most FTP programs are similar)
Hint: Faculty & Staff should always put 'nvcc' in front of userid [nvcc\userid]. Students should always put 'nvstudent' in front of userid [nvstudent\userid]. Use this format when you check mail and FTP files.
To FTP to your home folder on the Nova web server: 1) Open up WS_FTP from the Start, Programs, WS_ftp, and click on WS_FTP95 LE. The following Windows dialog will open. Enter each line the same as shown in the following screen shots. You will enter your faculty / staff Lan/Email username and password (IMPORTANT NOTE: you must nvcc\ in front of your username.) At this point you don't need to put in a password; you will be prompted to enter your password if it connects correctly. Click OK. [Go to downloads area if you need WS_ftp]
2) Enter your password in the dialog box and click OK.
3) You should now be connected to NovaWeb. You will see two panels. The panel on the left, Local System, is the computer you are sitting behind. The panel on the right, Remote System, is the Novaweb server.
4) Before you can transfer files you want to make sure you are in your personal home directory on NOVAWEB. Click on ChgDir button on the right side of right panel (remote System). The following dialog box opens:
6) Click Exit to close the program.
To FTP to your home folder on the Loudoun web server: 1) Open up WS_FTP from the Start, Programs, WS_ftp, and click on WS_FTP95 LE. The following Windows dialog will open. Enter each line the same as shown in the following screen shots. You will enter your faculty / staff Lan/Email username and password (IMPORTANT NOTE: you must put nvcc\ in front of your username.) At this point you don't need to put in a password; you will be prompted to enter your password if it connects correctly. Click OK. [Go to downloads area if you need WS_ftp]
2) Next click on the Advanced tab and change the "Remote Port" to 24 and make sure Passive transfers is checked
Click OK 3) You may be prompted to re-enter your userid. If so enter "nvcc\username"
Click OK. 4) Enter your password:
Click OK. 5) You should now be connected to the Loudoun web server and in your home directory (connecting to the Loudoun web server via FTP, using Remote Port 24 will take you directly into your personal home folder.) You will see two panels. The panel on the left, Local System, is the computer you are sitting behind. The panel on the right, Remote System, is your home directory on the Loudoun web server. You can now use the panel on the left to navigate to the directory where you keep your web files. You can scroll down and double - click on A: to access files on a disk. Just highlight a file, and click on arrow pointing to the RIGHT (Remote system) and file will be transferred.
6) Click Exit to close the program.
