Loudoun Student Support

  Logon

All student workstations, at all five campuses, require you to logon to the student domain in order to access your mail, printing priviledges, and software rights.  To logon, you must have NVCC student username, password & domain.

If you are a new student, it will take a minimum of 24 hours for your account to become active.    

  UserName

UserName is your first initial plus lastname, up to a total of 12 characters, no spaces or capitalization.  For example, if your name is 'James McGuire', your Default username would be 'jmcguire'.    

Exceptions:  If a second students name is  'Joyce McGuire', this would result in the same username as above, so the second initial of the first name is also used.  UserName would be 'jomcguire'.  Any ties after that, numerals will be added to the end of the username. For example, 'jomcguire1, jomcguire2'.

   Password

Your initial Default password will be the Month + Day (of your birthday) + last 4 digits of your Social Security (SSN) number.  Password must be 8 digits long.  So if you were born on June 2, 1980 and have a SSN of 234-456-0127, your password would be '06020127'.   When you type it in, the number will be encrypted, so it will display as '********'.

Sometime during the semester, you will logon to the domain and be required to change this initial password to a more secure, private password.   At this time, it most likely will require at least five characters, one will have to be a numeral.    

   Domain

Student Domain is "nvstudent".  So the third line of your logon, after you enter your username and password, should be "nvstudent". Sometimes the person before you could have inadvertely typed in the wrong domain.  So you should always check this entry.  It will usually be already entered for you.    

   Email

Your Email address is your username@student.nvcc.vccs.edu
  So if your name if Joyce McGuire, your username would be jmcguire and your email address would be "jmcguire@student.nvcc.vccs.edu" Your instructor's email address would be username@nvcc.vccs.ecu   

Students cannot create Personal Address Books.  This is a local file and since students log on to many different computers, they need to have some way for the address book to follow them around.   Please see info on Outlook Address Book for more info on this.  

   Home Pages

Every student has a 3mb home page space.  You can create and save your personal home pages in this space.  If your name is Joyce McGuire, then the WWW address of your home page is :   http://www.student.nvcc.vccs.edu/home/UserID
